Bottom Line: No Passive Learning!?!

Bottom Line: No Passive Learning!?!

Hello!

I had a delightful conversation with a student yesterday. And you’re going to hear more about her cuz she’s my fabulous lead for 3 WISHES. Beyond super excited!!

And we were talking about how different people learn.

Cuz yes:

My classrooms may terrify people. How so? No one gets to passively sit in my classes. Yup. I get everyone to talk.

BUT BUT BUT

Holly!?! You’re teaching writing classes and producing classes for writers. Aren’t most writers quiet types with rich emotional lives and active brains!?! Yup. Wouldn’t they be more comfortable not being put on the spot? That’s absoluely 100% cool if they want to be novelists. Like seriously!! Go on with yourself.

And even novelists to be successful? Must talk about their stories. After all… People don’t learn about you or your writings if you only hide out in places like under the bed or a root cellar or the bath tub… The list goes on.

What better place to practice than a classroom with others wanting you to succeed? And the instructor gets feedback about the class at the end of each session? Like dude!?! It’s all about the feedback. Absolutely

Wait there’s more: A producer hears no all the time. They also need to say no all the time. Practicing saying no in a classroom? Great opportunity to work with training wheels.

Since?

Thanks to things like the internet and AI? All the information for all time? Readily available at your finger tips. Doesn’t mean you know how to use it. Like I’ve read a bazillion books along with taken even more classes on writing. And? I still had to write my 100+ scripts of varying lengths to learn how to write. I’ll also argue: I finally like I’ve only just begun. That’s why my fancy pants continues to write and tell stories. It’s soooooooooo incredibly cool.

Why yes… I’m getting ready to launch another round of my writing class. It’s going to be five weeks long again. Why? My students are able to beat out a first outline draft in that time period. I’ve also figured out how to condense the class down to no more than two hours. Sure. More students may cause a longer run time. But I’ll figure that out.

Here’s the thing: These aren’t just your average draft preparation classes with you only stuck in your head. Nope. I also draw from my 20+ caregiving and embodied breathworker level three to let do deep work. Dudes. Like it’s soooooo incredibly cool. I’ve been able to have massive unlocks with my stories using these tools. Absolutely want to share them more!!

I’m thinking night time is best since I’m going to be filmming on weekends starting in September.

What are your best nights?

Fridays 6 pm – 8 pm Mountain/5 pm – 7 pm Pacific/8 pm – 10 pm Eastern starting September 11

Thursdays 6 pm – 8 pm Mountain/5 pm – 7 pm Pacific/8 pm – 10 pm Eastern starting September 17 (I’m going to Black Flag on the 10th)

I’m thinking the class will be $400 per person. This will include one consult along with the class. You have up to a year from purchase date to use the script consult. The class will have a limit of four people. I know other schools have bigger classes except that gives less time per student. And since it’s via Zoom? No need to just be in Montana.
