Clarity Comes from Reps

Clarity Comes from Reps

Hello!

Yup. This is the week in Producer Script School where????

We talk about reps and skills development. So? I’m having fun weaving my embodied breathwork into my indie filmmaking/writing skills.

Cuz???

Part of clear communication is…

Not being so far in your own head. Sure. The weather is great in there…

EXCEPT???

The story in the reader’s head isn’t the story in the writer’s head.

I know! I know! I know!

I’ve often repeated Corey Mandell‘s words.

AND???

This is true with EVERY form of communication. Yup. It’s been a minute since I mentioned the Ethical Slut. Why talk about it in a post about scriptwriting and indie filmmaking? It calls out folks for expecting others to be mind readers. Cuz that’s the essence of what Corey is talking about: You can’t expect others to use your context if you don’t give enough information for them to understand.

BUT BUT BUT

Overloading folks instead of inviting them on your rabbit hole journey? You lose them. How to remedy this disconnect? Practice. Let your fear be your companion rather than your chauffer. Yes. It’s so easy to tell people what to do no matter what we do. So? I’ve found ways to publicly speak at least once a week: Toastmasters where I do every week and a speech at least once a month, two public facing part-time jobs, stand up open mics every week and Story Night once a month. The last five weeks? Teaching five classes a week and averaging about seven+ script consults. Heck! My daily blog since December 2025 is also more communication. I’m added Karaoke in this week. And I’ll be getting going on that year of a cappella open mics in September. I’ve been too focused on getting my classes and consulting caught up to spend too much time singing. I also have little more than week to finish up my 105 day sex magic ritual practice. To say I’m more grounded in my body than before I started? Holy shit!! Yes.

Current result: I’ve been able to test how I explain things. As I start to apply my embodied practices more and more during my presentations? It’s helping me to read the room more and more rather than being all twisted up in Pretzelitis.

Yup. I’m a work in progress. I’ve also come a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way. The best part???? Dudes. It’s been so much fun working how to explain things in the simplest of terms. After all… It’s more important for folks to understand what I’m saying than get though all my material.

How about you? Are you steps to work on your communication?

As always: Have a glamorous day for fun!!
