Hello!
I’ve been sitting with this idea for a minute…
It’s the journey of going from an amateur to a professional in the film world.
Any kind of art. Really.
See… A possible assumption early in the process of becoming an artist???
Cuz my art interests me? It must interest everyone else.
Nope.
I’ll be honest this is hard to swallow when it’s your own art.
At first.
I’m reminded of reading The Healthy Edit. It’s experienced editor’s thoughts on how to cut films. Yes. He talks cutting actual film EXCEPT his principles still hold true no matter a movie’s format.
Why?
He talks about not wanting to EVER go on set for a film editing project. His rationale is simple:
He doesn’t want to know how long it takes to set up a shot.
Cuz?
He doesn’t want to feel obligated to keep a shot due to the work needed to make it happen.
Since it’s about making a movie not just the workload. I’ve many an artist talk about the amount of time except? That’s a benchmark for artists.
I cam also write in about four or less hours what used to take me 12 or more hours even longer. Does this mean my art is less valid? Or? Am I at a different point in my learning curve?
Wait! There’s more…
And this was and still is my biggest hurdle:
How do I translate my art to other people???
That’s where the unicorn part enters the building.
How?
The context behind what we put together is unique to us. Yup. Our consumers only know the end result. Not our journey for it.
And?
Totally cool. Sure. You might appreciate that my 3 Wishes story is probably my 100 written script of some length.
BUT BUT BUT
That won’t guarantee it’ll land with other humans.
So?
That’s my job now while I prepare that script for next year’s production.
And just for fun?? I’m putting together a journal around 3 WISHES like Robert Rodriguez did with his movie El Mariachi
I’ll also be building out a book called “But I’m A Unicorn” about this journey cuz there’s so ,much more to this than what’s written here.
As always: Have a glamorous day for fun!!
