Hello all!

I’ve finally figured out when I’ll shoot my cast shots for 3 WISHES: Memorial Day weekend 2027.

Yes. This seems super far out since it’s an ENTIRE YEAR AWAY.

BUT BUT BUT…

I have several factors involved:

I’m switching over to DaVinci Resolve for my editing and post-production. I already know Final Cut Pro, iMovie and can trouble shoot Adobe Premiere. Why say trouble shoot for Premiere? I had endless challenges with it. This was also true Avid. Sure: I can’t under estimate OPERATOR ERRORS.

And?

I have no desire to work through them since Resolve is a much more robust system and of itself.

Another aspect is my earlier discussion around shot composition. My 16 earlier shorts were more built around highlighting my actors in my shots. As 3 WISHES is about mental health in Montana, I also want to build up dynamic B roll/exterior shots. This will take time cuz this isn’t just about pretty shots… I want time to think about how my emotional story motivates the visuals and play with them before I lock them down.

Yup. My current B roll shots have been interesting. And I’m going to start playing with them now that I have my schedule locked for a while.

SUPER IMPORTANT DETAIL:

Slowing down going into cast production? Gives me more time to develop my script. Yes. My story is modern take on the Prodigal Son with women set in Eastern Montana.

So?

I’m going to take some time to really dig into my story. A cool part about all my inner work? It’s slowed down my creative blocks to let me dig in deeper. It’s been beyond cool. Returning to Montana after being in Los Angeles for 14 years also has given me a whole bunch of layers in this story that I hadn’t known when I first started writing it!! Love it!!

Why pick a holiday weekend?

As Montana doesn’t really have the year round infrastructure for actors to earn their living that way??? I need to work around a more traditional schedule. Having a three weekend? If I take one or two days on that? People don’t have to burn through much vacation time.

I’ll talk about budgeting in my Bottom line post this Wednesday.
