I loooooooooooooooooooooooove digging into the story behind the story.
Why?
Digging like that helped me to better understand my writing voice.
This is the fancy way to say: People can tell you give a shit about what you’re writing about.
Huh?
Why wouldn’t people give a shit about their stories?
Dudes!?!
People will write about all sorts of things are all sorts of reasons.
Making it clear to others in a translatable sort of way?
So very fun!!!
Here’s more information along with the dates:
- Why Write? – Dig into why people write and create films to help people work on their writing voices. A personal connection is key when explaining why someone is the best writer for the job.
July 14 4 -7 PM Mountain Time
July 18 6:30 – 9:30 PM
- Digging into Your Lead Character – We talk through our characters along with working through worksheets with prompts to build them out. Part of this also includes why we are drawn to create that particular character. This work informs how we write them.
July 21 4 – 7 pm Mountain Time

- Think Conflict – Pull apart different kinds of conflicts would work with that lead character. We explore the idea of having conflicts support a page count.

- Develop a World for Your Lead Character – Now that you have your lead character and main conflict: How do build an engaging world to support that story? Does it have rules different from every day life? If so, what?

- Build an Antagonist – Your lead character is only as strong as the bad dude. We dig into the antagonist like we did the lead.

- Deepen Conflict – The world and antagonist add to the story conflict and conflicts. We flesh this out more.

- Talk about Plotting Stories Versus A Seat of Your Pants Approach and Integrating the Two – We compare and contrast the two to talk through options. And we will go over the different outlines to have folks consider what may be a good fit for their story or fodder for their brainstorming.
