Tuesday Tales: Butting Heads

Tuesday Tales: Butting Heads

As Lori opens the door with coffee in hand, Miranda checks her watch.

“Jesus, Mom. It’s almost noon.”

“I never knew my daughter was such a stick in the mud.”

Miranda can’t hold back her groan.

“All the kids these days say ‘You do you boo’ just so you know.”

“Great, Mom. I’m not 12. We need to talk.”

“I’m the parent here.”

“You coulda fooled me.”

They share an intense look. Lori smirks while she steps aside. Miranda sticks out her tongue.

Both laugh.

Miranda enters.

“Have you even had coffee?”

“What do you think? I’ve been up since 5 am.”

“Christ. I thought you’d grown from that phase by now.”

“Not having a job cuz my mom tormented the mother behind the only job in town worth having fucks with a girl’s sleep.”

“Did you seriously just use ‘cuz’ in your comment?”

“That’s all you got from that?”

“Would you like me to talk about how it’s been brought to my attention about you going to Doreen for counseling instead?”

They settle into the living room.

“How do you know that?”

“Bored and boring people.”

“Then why did you ride my ass to return here?”

“If you really must know, I found it unacceptable that my child was living so low to the ground.”

“If you don’t apologize to Heather’s mom, that’s not changing.”

“Oh, God.  If she’s anything like her mother Patrice? Run like the wild. You’d be better off being a Walmart greeter.”

“It may come to that.”

“You could always go work for your father’s company.”

“You mean you two are getting along now?”

“He owes you.”

“I’ll think about it.”

“So, I’ll be hearing about you dining at the food bank?”

“Just talk to Patrice.”

“I don’t do gibberish.”

“Love you,  Mom.”

Miranda gives Lori a magnificent smile.

“I’m regretting it already.”

Miranda kisses Lori’s forehead and leaves. Lori chugs her coffee and grabs her cell.

As always: Have a glamorous day for fun!!
