Tuesday Tales: Pre-Writing

Tuesday Tales: Pre-Writing

Helllo!

Yes. That’s my handwriting in my journal.

And?

It’s better than it was about a month ago.

I digress.

As I’m gearing up to write this on going story, I’ve been thinking aboiit how to best put it together.

BUT BUT BUT Holly!?!

It’s only going to be page long. How difficult can that REALLY be? Like seriously dude!?! You’ve written 100+ scripts!! My ass should be able to do this in my sleep. RIGHT???

EXCEPT

There’s a saying in writing: I wrote a long paper cuz I didn’t have time to write a short one.

Ouch.

True though.

After all…

It’s beyond easy to free associate and dump shit on the page. Yup. Piles and piles of shit.

Cuz yes…

The word “dump” is the right one. I also confess that was more my method when I started these blogs in December. It was seriously like my fingers couldn’t type fast enough. I also imagine that it was likely hard to follow me through the weeds. As I was living in them, I couldn’t see it.

Though?

I was aware that it can be hard to track when someone else processes in real time. Still fuck it: My days of performing wellness for the sake of everyone else while being ripped up inside? Done.

So?

It hit me that I should be building these small stories around the actions of character rather than design a large plot or even a small one to follow. Cuz I’m reminded of something Ed Solomon said about his characters of Bill and Ted – They will be Bill and Ted no matter where they are.

And it’s my responsibility to come up with a character with some consistency without it feeling like she is so much the same that there’s no point in reading.

Why yes!!

I have my job cut out for me.

The other part?

Trying to figure out genre. I looooooooooooooove writing comedies, dramedies, thrillers, holiday stories, and even horror.

IF I mash them up toooo much? Confusion.

First order of business?

Figuring out the lead character. She’ll dictate the world. Yes. I’ve already established that my lead character will be a woman. Why? I have lived experience with that. This lets me dig in deeper to the character than if she is male since I have lived experience being a woman and girl.

Okay. Back to my pre-writing.

As always: Have a glamorous day for fun!!
