Hello!
Dudes!! I’ve participated in Story Night Billings three times now.
And?
I loved my experiences. It’s built around the Moth model except no scores. You basically share a story up to ten minutes. They’re now built around a theme. The cool part? My sister Kim participated last nigh too. She did a great job!
There’s a thing:
I’m still going to Nashville to pursue country music.
So?
Being dynamic in front of a crowd beyond just singing? Fundamental
Yup. You now know why my fancy pants does things like Story Night.
BUT BUT BUT
It hit me: Story Night is more about long form than short form. That up to ten minutes when people are expecting music? Wrong training. I’m better off going to the different stand up comedy open mics simce those are about quick bits. I currently know of three stand up open mics a month here. There’s also one that happens on occasion. I’m sure that I’ll learn more the longer that I participate.
Here’s the Other Part:
Really? More about deconstructing a myth – Just cuz you try something? Doesn’t mean you need to be stuck forever if it doesn’t work.
Also?
Give yourself the chance to try something more than once before you decide against it. Why? The first time out is a shit show cuz no matter how much informatiion that you have under your belt? All bets are off in real life.
My conclusion? I LOVE LOVE LOVE Story Night Billings. As folks don’t compete? I love it even more.
I’m grateful for the experiences. It gave me great opportunities to publicly speak. Very cool.
I’ve also done it enough now to know: It’s time to get my ass into far less forgiving rooms. Cuz if I can’t engage a room in Billings? I sure as shit can’t in Nashville where there’s a ton more competition.
I’ll share more along my journey.
As always: Have a glamorous day for fun!!
