Hello!
My second undergraduate degree is in history from Montana State University – Billings (MSU-B.) Heck. I was even chosen as the “Outstanding Senior of Year.” One of my papers were nominated for best paper in the Phi Alpha Theta Honorary Regional Conference out of 104 papers. My paper was about Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. Gloria Steinem is an infant compared to her in terms of accomplishments especially what Sor Juana was up against.
Why puff my chest with some of my accomplishments? I want to let you know that I’m familiar with what I’m sharing. AND? You’re still welcome to fact check me.
I brought up my history degree cuz I did a deep dive on the USA cultural revolution starting in the 1950s. As this isn’t common knowledge… Did you know that Ho Chi Minh asked the United States for help after France abandoned their colony there? Yup. France all but destroyed Vietnam. But since France was our friend? We gave them a pass and ignored Ho Chi Minh’s plea for help.
So? Ho Chi Minh did was any reasonable leader would do? We went to the next country on the list: China. And? The United States freaked out and started a war there. AND THERE’S MORE… The Vietnam War was the first televised war. As Americans haven’t had any significant wars on our soil since the American Civil War? Yes. Pearl Harbor was awful. It was also significantly more contained… We don’t understand war like most of the world that has experienced it or experience it.
Boom! Seeing the impact of war? Got people on the streets like now where people are finally seeing deportations and ICE raids on the TV. News flash: The United States Government has long deported people. In fact? Former President Obama was nicknamed “Deporter in Chief” for deporting over 3,000,000 with ICE. How are these times any different from the past? Do you think ICE used cookies during Obama’s tenure to deport people?
Or?
Do you only care about ICE raids now that they’re being televised?
And do you think you’re doing humanitarian things by thinking undocumented individuals are living safe lives while in this country?
Cuz see…
My heart has always been impractical. Yup. I had a significant relationship with an undocumented Mexican National at the turn of the century.
We met when I dropped out of corporate America to waitress for my survival job. As I was getting ready to pursue scriptwriting, I wanted time to write. So? We fell in love and tried to make out relationship work.
It was deep in our relationship that I found out about his undocumented status. That’s not something for casual conversations. And it never occurred for me to ask.
The result? He couldn’t be on any leases given his status. Our landlords could have kicked us out at any time. It was so stressful. Our employer ran “his” social security number when he became the highest paid cook with weeks and weeks of vacation stored up. He was fired.
But but but our employer said that they would rehire him if he got a new social security number. The reality too? His pay would be dropped back down to a starting wage with no accrued vacation.
Making things worse? My birth control failed at around that time. Yes. I was part of an awful choice cuz we were both terrified. Truth? I felt pushed in my decisions.
I know. I know. I just admitted to abortion. So? I’m grateful that women now have 50 choices instead of only be held hostage by the one and only Federal Government.
Why did I leave that relationship? I found out that there had been the “Life” Act in 2000 where he could have paid a fine for entering the USA illegally and start the process of becoming a citizen and work legally. He let it pass cuz he didn’t want to become an American since he hated America. Life didn’t turn out to be a bed of roses here. He also wasn’t willing to risk trying to come back legally given the bureaucracy around it and risking not being able to return legally for ten years if caught. Absolutely his right to never want to do anything substantial to change his situation. Tell me something: Do you think the way that he will always live his life in the United States is great or the American dream?
I also had the right to choose if that’s how I wanted to live the rest of my life. That’s thing about being an adult: Tough Choices. So? I ended things and went to Mexico for a while. And I understood the reason for why people with lower educations come to the United States. Yes. He had about a sixth grade education. Dude. He was super smart. Formal education isn’t everything for everyone.
Long digress for sure.
Nope. I’m not pro-deporting folks. I’ve long thought that the Americas should create their own version of the European Union. This can let people retain their national citizenship while being able to work where their skills could be put to good use. Sure. We speak different languages among the Americas. Europe found work arounds for this. We can too. This would kill the inhumane conditions people face with Coyotes. As countries involved would get some form of taxes, they would all have incentive to cooperate.
Let’s say that we don’t go that route. Absorbing people in the United States is a short term knee jerk reaction. It also doesn’t address why people would risk so much to leave their countries to be in the United States. Cuz the USA is a massive factor for the destabilization of Latin America. Any doubts? Look up the Dirty Wars with Pinochet after he installed him stop Allende from being elected. So? I feel that it’s our responsibility to help build up infrastructure like we did in Iraq after up we blew up that country. This would be by far a better and more sustainable solution that could lead to real futures for all nations. Cuz after all? We have Americans starving on the streets in desperate of help too. They need real help instead of mostly just the homeless industrial complex.
As for those politicians standing up for undocumented individuals? If the US Census only counted citizens instead of just bodies???? Would you be so quick to defend them? After all… The Census determines how many Representatives each state gets in the House of Representatives and how much funding each of the 50 states would get and how many electoral votes allotted to a state. Yup. Funny how some politicians “get ethics” when money is involved. No. Not all politicians are bad. They all aren’t good either. AND none are your friends no matter much the media spins them: They’ve been elected or appointed to do their jobs. And it’s up to ALL of US to hold them accountable not the just the ones allowing the media to make bazillions of dollars. ALL.
Update: After living in mostly red states and mostly blue states? Corruption doesn’t discriminate. I will no longer be cowed in believing one party is better than the other cuz that’s what a lot of people are doing these days: Believe like me or else. Nope. People can believe however they choose.
Yeah. I know… I may lose some readers for posting this. Absolutely cool! As we must all face ourselves in the mirror, I’m choosing to no longer remain silent. I’m also absolutely and positively completely fine if you disagree with me on one point or all. You’re also welcome to judge me. If you want to talk trash about me? I won’t stop you. Nope. I’m also not going to bother to “correct the record” like I would have tried when I was younger. It is what it is.
You’re also welcome to tell me of any areas where you disagree. I’m curious. Cuz in case you haven’t noticed? I don’t assume that I’m always right. And I’m happy to change my viewpoint if it turns out that my head is shoved up my ass. Always possible since there are only so many hours in the day to consume so much content with the understanding that most content is put out by for profit industries. I’m totally fine with this cuz we all must pay our bills. It’s more that I won’t just blindly accept anything: Due diligence whenever possible.
As always: Have a glamorous day for fun!!
