Incorporate Dance Party!?!

Incorporate Dance Party!?!

So…

You LOGCALLY think: As Holly is an indie filmmaker and writer, it would both of those helping her while she went through what faced since leaving her marriage. I talk about it in my blog about being a former Stepford wife in case you missed it.

Writing has absolutely been my saving grace for I’ve gone the gamut of hypervigilant journaling to simply savoring my words for the sake of experiencing them.

Yes. I’ve also put together three short films during this time, write two feature film drafts, outlined 15 more, and wrote over 300 poems. I’ve also started performing them at various poetry reads and open mics.

But my real saving grace during this time? Listening to music. My ex-husband Richard changed my life when he initially got me a subscription to Spotify. Cuz it lets me do what I love: Listen to songs on repeat. There’s just something magical about being able to do this.

Sure. I could have gotten this if I had gotten a subscription to Pandora Music or YouTube except I love that Spotify stood by Joe Rogan instead of canceling at the behest of Joni Mitchell. Whether you like Joe Rogan or not – Joni’s behavior tells me that she has gone to the dark side. How so? She is setting herself up to be an authoritarian stripping people of their right to choose I.e. scumbag move. Like she knows what’s best for you. In a word: BULLSHIT

I chose to digress. So…

Back to incorporating a dance party…

See…

I love throwing on a repeated song and setting my timer. Playlists sometimes too. And I just let the music move me however I want. No order. Just movement. So incredibly freeing. I’ve done this to Christmas music, punk music, country music, dance music, pop music, everything in between and of COURSE?? DISCO. Yes. My mom was a fiend for the Bee Gees when I was a kid. Still is.

Bottom line: I find music shake my ass on my own terms. Fabolous!!!

Let’s say you don’t have time to stick on a timer to dance for an extended period of time. But? I bet you move yourself for a single song. Cuz staring small is far better than not starting at all. And what if? You tried that for a week? Maybe longer… After you do it for a few days if you’re so inclined? Reflect how you feel. Notice any difference?

I’ll say for myself that starting to incorporate dance parties into my days is my way of playing. And DUDE??? It’s sooooooooooooooooo much!! I feel so much lighter. That’s lightness didn’t happen immediately. It’s been a slow build. AND!?! I’m absolutely worth caring for in fun ways to uplift my spirit. AND YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE!?! YOU ARE TOO!! Maybe dancing isn’t your thing. But what is a small gift of play that you can give yourself?

As always: Have a glamorous day for fun!!
