Hey all!
Yes. I feel that I’ve been talking up a storm in these posts… Sharing and sharing and sharing AND DID I MENTION SHARING!?! As opaque as it is? I have a message driving all this: No one is alone. The shit that we go through doesn’t separate us from the “Human Tribe.” It’s just a rite of passage for being part of the group.
Sure. Some folks get handed a much bigger pile of shit than others. This doesn’t mean that they were “singled out” any more than anyone else. I know! I know! I know! This goes counter to dominant narratives that you’re a victim….
EXCEPT
Have you considered that part of why you get dealt so much shit is cuz you’re strong? Like you’re really fucking strong? You know… Stronger than the average bear strong???? What do I mean? I took a class from Trauma Specialist Janina Fisher. To say my mind was blown?? Holy shit. So much wisdom.
And one thing that she talked about was a game changer: how we relate to traumatic events.
See… People always want to know the weeds and details of the trauma. Like the blow by blow. This approach to trauma narratives is everywhere including the media and social media. I’ve also done it here too with my earlier blogs. But Janina pointed out that living in trauma’s weeds? We give our agency and power to the trauma like we’re helpless babes. Cuz it’s ultimately not the traumatic event that matters…
How we survived and in turn flourish? Dude!!!!! Total game changer right there. Think about it: You’ve seen some shit. Maybe even some horrific shit. And yet????? You’re reading my blog cuz you tapped into your own resources to find your strength to survive that shit. Talk about you being a rockstar!!!!
Was it perfect? Nope. Does that matter? Nope. Did you live a different day to try something new? You bet your sweet ass. Talk about a gift to give yourself!! I’m so proud of you!! The real question?
Are you proud of you too? OR??? Are you stuck in just talking about shit allows trauma to win? How about focusing on the thing that matters: You!!! And if you’re willing to reach out? You’ll realize that you’re not alone.
Have a glamorous day on purpose!!
